A practice rooted in a deeper understanding of place.

Yahara Landworks is an independent landscape, visualization, planning, and communication practice based in Madison, Wisconsin. The name reflects a connection to the Yahara River and the interconnected lakes, waterways, communities, and surrounding lands that shape this part of Wisconsin.

The practice is rooted in a simple idea: good work begins by paying attention—to the place, the people involved, the information at hand, and the relationships between them. Depending on the project, that may lead to a landscape plan, a visualization, a planning document, or another form of design communication.

A lifelong connection to nature and design.

I grew up exploring forests, building forts, and creating small worlds outdoors. Those experiences fostered an early fascination with landscapes—not only how they look, but how they shape the way we move, gather, explore, and experience a place.

That interest eventually developed into a desire to design and create landscapes: to understand what is already there, imagine what a place could become, and translate those ideas into something tangible.

A foundation in landscape architecture.

I studied Landscape Architecture at the University of Wisconsin–Madison, where I developed a foundation in site design, ecological systems, and the relationship between people and place.

My professional experience spans residential design/build, hands-on landscape construction, and work within landscape architecture and civil design environments. Moving between the field and the design studio has given me experience with both the creative and technical sides of landscape projects—from early concepts, site planning, and visualization to construction details, coordination, communication, and the practical realities of bringing ideas into built form.

A practice shaped by different kinds of work.

Yahara Landworks brings together experience in landscape design and construction, visualization, planning, research, technical writing, graphics, and project communication.

Some of that work is centered on private landscapes and site design. Other projects involve parks, recreation planning, public spaces, visualization, or the development of clear planning and communication materials. The scale and format may change, but the underlying approach is consistent: understand the place, make sense of the problem, and develop a clear way forward.

That range is intentional. Rather than defining the practice around a single service, Yahara Landworks continues to develop around the kinds of work, relationships, and projects where design, spatial thinking, analysis, and communication overlap.
